This is the second, revised and enlarged edition of materials about the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in prevention and overcoming the spread of HIV/AIDS, i.e. about programs of orthodox parishes, sisterhoods, Church related NGOs in palliative care, Christian psychological counseling, assistance to PLWHA in penitentiaries, about education and trainings for clergy and laity etc. Special chapters deal with theological and ethical approach of the Church towards the rapid spread of this disease, with worldwide experience of AIDS work of Christian denominations. The book informs about the “Church against AIDS’ Network and its activities in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, as well as about the interaction between Church, secular society and state in overcoming AIDS related problems. The preface from Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of Moscow Patriarchate opens the book. The annexes contain final documents of prominent interconfessional conferences on HIV/AIDS and lists of information and training materials – books, guides, films etc., published by FBOs in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Armenia on HIV/AIDS.
